What do you think makes you a good coach?
My love for the children and my love for the game makes me a good coach.

What are your key strengths?
My key strengths are patience and understanding. Through that I know I can create a fun and an interesting learning environment for the children.

Why do you love Chess?
I was introduced to chess at a very early age. As a studious child in the classroom chess was the only board game which inspired me and never felt tired of. Chess is such a fascinating game which can create countless moves and positions around 64 squares and 32 pieces.

When/how did you first learn to play?
While I was watching two of my cousins playing chess at the age of 8, I was so curious about pieces and their different movements and I was so drawn to the game with the help of my parents a joined the school chess club.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?
Kids are so interesting to work with. They are very open and have a pure mindset and they are the best group absorb new things quite fast.

What are your main Chess achievements?
Recipient of University Chess Colours for three consecutive years at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

How do you think Chess helps kids?
Chess is an intellectual game which requires a lot of critical thinking and brain storming which directly helps cognitive development, academic skills and memory. Sometimes one's move depends on his opponent's move which helps with understanding other's perspectives, respecting others, developing empathy and fair-play. Moreover chess helps to plan ahead and improves decision making.
