I believe what makes me a good chess coach is my ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and simple manner. My strong background in chess allows me to create a fun, engaging, and structured coaching environment that keeps students motivated while helping them improve.

What are your key strengths?

  • Analytical Thinking – I approach chess with a strategic mindset, helping students learn how to analyze positions effectively.
  • Adaptability – I tailor my coaching style to match each student's learning pace and needs, ensuring they grasp concepts in a way that suits them best.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement – I believe in lifelong learning, always refining my own skills and knowledge to provide better coaching experiences.
  • Creating an Engaging Environment – I foster a positive and growth-focused atmosphere, where students feel encouraged to take risks, learn from mistakes, and develop their confidence.

Why do you love chess?

I fell in love with chess when I was eight years old. From the very beginning, I was intrigued by how a simple game could have such depth and endless possibilities.

The strategic challenges and the constant room for improvement make chess a game that never gets boring, and that’s what has kept me passionate about it over the years.

When/how did you first learn to play?

I first learned how to play chess at the age of eight, watching senior students at my primary school. I observed them playing every day, fascinated by their moves and strategies. Eventually, I decided to challenge my dad to a game, and that’s when my chess journey truly began.

Why do you enjoy working with kids?

Working with young learners is incredibly inspiring because of their eagerness, creativity, and rapid ability to learn. Their enthusiasm for new challenges motivates me to be the best coach I can be.

It brings me great joy to be part of their educational journey and witness their growth, progress, and confidence develop over time.

What are your main chess achievements?

I have represented my primary and intermediate school in numerous chess tournaments.

  • 2016: Selected for Nationals, but unfortunately unable to attend.
  • Intermediate (Year 7-8): My team finished 3rd overall, earning medals.
  • 2018: Selected for Nationals again and was fortunate enough to attend, finishing 7th overall.

These experiences have shaped my love for competitive chess and strengthened my skills as a player.

How do you think chess helps kids?

Chess helps children develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, patience, focus, and sportsmanship—all of which contribute to their cognitive and social development.

It also teaches resilience, strategic planning, and decision-making, skills that prepare them to handle challenges both in school and in life. Chess isn’t just a game; it’s a tool that builds confidence and enhances mental agility.
